For those who have been watching my listings over the last week or so, please note that this is the last piece of Irish lace I have left to sell - so don't miss this opportunity
This is a beuatiful strip with rounded edges. Length 114cm long x 8 cm wide. Overall pattern of scrolls, spots, leaves and flowers - see photos.
This looks exactly as described in my lace book for 19thC Irish lace - "applying cambric to machine net and adding lace stitches." The colour probably started white but is now coffee/cream. There are a few holes in the net in places, but still fascinating items, both charming and interesting as a reference piece.
I am no expert at lace (I normally do buttons) but am trying to learn. I bought a whole box of old lace recently at a reputable auction. It was catalogued "19th century Limerick lacework collection with a note written by Augustine Birrell". The note in the box says "Here is the Locker lace sent by Mr Birrell to my mother .... the note inside is his hand-writing." And it is the notepaper with a Chelsea address which has the hand-written label "Limerick 1st half of 19th century." You are welcome to have a photocopy of these documents if you wish - just request it when you pay.
No attempt has been made to wash this lace as it looks so old and delicate. You may be more skilled than me and freshening up would improve it.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer. Always happy to combine postage.
I normally post items Royal Mail standard 2nd class, but if you would prefer 1st class or registered "signed for", please just let me know. International signed for will be about £6.50.
