Item Description:
You are bidding on a Vintage C.L. Guinand Rattrapante or Split Second Stop Watch. This watch does run, however, I believe the mainspring needs replacement because when you wind it about 7 turns of the crown, you feel something unwind, just like when you release the click to unwind the mainspring. As I indicated, it does run, but as with all Vintage watches, if not serviced by a professional, there are no guarantees on performance, so this is being sold for parts or repair. This happens to be an early model Guinand because I own another that has a similar movement, but mine indicates it is made by Jules Racine and is unadjusted. Also this one has a Wolf Tooth gear and mine does not (see Picture). Jules Racine may have bought Guinand or maybe started supplying their movements. This watch is really Vintage. They even spelled Swiss the old way, "Suisse".
Hard to tell by looking through the crystal, but there is a white dial. It says C.L. Guinand, Locle Suisse. Movement says Non-magnetic, 7 Seven Jewels, C.L. Guinand, Locle Suisse, 4 Four Adjmt's. It has a continuous second hand and all the buttons or functions seem to work just fine. One of the second hands was catching on the other, so I tried to bend it a little and it snapped at the bottom. Not enough snapped off, so it still gets hung up and depending on where it does, it stops the watch. If you stop the rattrapante function, it runs fine. It's just where the bottom of one hand hits the top of the other. Obviously, since this watch is old, the material is brittle, which I didn't realize until it was too late. DAH!!!! The inside back of the case says C.L. Guinand, Locle Suisse G, 12 and 49368. Inside the dust cover the number 49368 is also written.
Nice case and movement sure to become harder to find in the future. This version is hard to find now. Good Luck Bidding!!!
Payment & Shipping Details:
Per eBay's policy, we only accept PayPal. Shipping in US is $5.95. All other locations must be calculated. Shipping in the US includes Delivery Confirmation. For Domestic Sales, Insurance will automatically be included on items selling for over $50.
International Sales must also go through Customs, so please know your Custom's Laws because if the item is held up in Customs, you will have to deal with it. Since Delivery Confirmation is not available with International Flat Rate Mail, shipments to some countries on items that sell for $50 or more will require Registered Mail. This is a U.S.A Postal Fee of $11.50, which is in addition to the actual shipping cost and if it is not available, it must be shipped EMS. Please feel free to email me for a shipping quote. Also, for International Buyers, please do not ask me to send the item as a gift or for less value than the sale price. First, you are asking me to break the customs laws in the U.S.A., as well as your country and second, I won't be able to add insurance to protect the item from loss or damage. Please do not bid if you have a problem with this.
Payment is expected within 5 days of Auction close, so please email with your intentions if it is going to be longer. This is especially true if you are sending payment by mail. I understand and will work with you, so please it only takes a minute to write an email. If you don't contact me, I will have to assume you are backing out of the contract. Communication is Important.
Returns Policy:
As we indicate below, this is our policy regarding returns. We sell antique and vintage items in an "as is, as found" condition for restoration or parts. These items have for the most part been in circulation for years, perhaps a hundred years or more, and we try our very best to note any problems or imperfections in our description. Also, because of their age, it is impossible for us to guarantee that items will work without some restoration. This is especially true with vintage watches. They are not performance guaranteed unless they are serviced by a professional and we leave the decision to service watches up to our customers. We only give refunds for things we fail to note in our description, so please email any questions or concerns you have about an item before you bid, especially if it is something that will make or break your buying decision. You might as well know all about it before you bid. Please note: We don't try to sneak one by you and if something should get by us and you catch it, you have three (3) days after you receive it to notify us that you are sending it back, after which you have 7 days to get it back to us for a refund. We try our very best to workout any issues before they are problems, so don't forget to email us and Good Luck Bidding.
