WALTHAM 7J POCKET WATCH. 9CT GOLD/F FULL HUNTER. C1899

Seller assumes all responsibility for this listing.

Handsome  Waltham 7  jewel pocket watch in a highly ornate 9ct gold filled full hunter case. C1899. Full working order.

Fantastic pale  ivory porcelain  dial in mint condition - no hairlines, marks or nibbles. Bold black roman numerals with black minute, five minute and 15 minute markers to chapter ring, recessed sub dial with black arabic numbers, original blued steel 'fine spade' hands  and original correct blued arrow tip seconds hand all in super condition. Says; Waltham. New hunter crystal fitted.

The highly ornate 9ct (tested) gold filled full hunter case is in very good order  with no indentations (reflections only from camera)and just a very little bit of wear to high points  - mainly to bottom of case circumference near hinges with overall  light surface scratches commensurate with age. Measures 5.2cm diameter (excluding stem and bow), 1.3cm depth and total watch weight is 106.3 grams. The front cover opens like a missile (so fast it can catch you unawares!) to exactly 90 degrees when the winder is depressed  and closes on a strong catch. The back cover and dust cover both open to exactly 90 degrees and click shut tightly and all 3 hinges excellent and firm.  The inside of the back cover  is stamped; GUARANTEED ESSEX COLUMBIA 20 YEARS and is numbered; 934513 (this number is also  partially repeated on the inside back case curvette - 513) and carries an old repairers/service mark from 1948. Also has a light scratch (looks like somebody in the past scratched it to see if solid gold). The  dust cover is unusual in that it is double stepped in design.

The nickel plate 7 ruby jewelled (Waltham model 1899) lever movement is in fantastic condition (very tiny little bit of age patina on ratchet barrel and mainspring barrel covers) and carries heavy damaskeening to the top plates and highly ornate engine turning to the bottom plate (not seen one as elaborately engraved as this on the bottom plate) and mainspring and ratchet barrel covers. Has a compensated balance (did not want to stop for the camera - showing the balance spring is in perfect beat) with brass balance screws, blued steel overcoil balance spring and heavily engraved balance cock. Stamped on the top plate; A.W.W.Co  WALTHAM, MASS. SAFETY BARREL and is numbered; 9439279 - dating it to 1899 (this would have been one of the first 1899 models Waltham made). Balance action is tremendous in all positions (could not be any better) and watch is running strongly with a good regular tick and has been keeping excellent time on my desk for the past fortnight.

Side wind and hand set - both work correctly  and takes a very full and smooth wind.

Good firm slightlyworn bow.
